Latin Americaspotlight on our activities

It all began in Latin America. In 1995, we made our first investment to support a Chilean fair trade co-operative. Today, this region accounts for our largest agricultural investment portfolio.

In Latin America, small family-run agriculture businesses are the fabric of the economy, contributing greatly to food security. Today, more than ever, smallholder farmers need our help to cope with the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, all set against a backdrop of growing social inequalities.

Since our first investment in Chile, we have expanded our activity and we now have a vast network of partners, working both in agriculture and microfinance. We work with long-established co-operatives and fledgling companies that help smallholder farmers and small-and medium-sized enterprises. In agriculture, we contribute to the financing of ten agricultural value chains — including coffee, of course.

In Latin America, we are active in: Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Chile, El Salvador, Bolivia, Colombia, and Argentina.

With a significant local presence in Honduras, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Peru, today we can rapidly meet our partners’ most urgent and diverse needs.
